This Mink was running for cover with his/her fresh fish lunch gathered from the pools exposed at low tide. The prey is a Rock blenny (Xiphister mucosus) which lives under rocks in the intertidal and sub-tidal zones.
The low tide also revealed a number of Sunflower stars (Pycnopodia helianthoides). This species is the world’s largest starfish and can reach a diameter (tentacle end to tentacle end) of a metre. This specimen is about 0.5 m across.
