The endangered Taylor’s Checkerspot butterfly (Euphydryas editha taylori) whose only known Canadian breeding sites are on Denman Island can be seen flying through May and early June.
If you think you see a Taylor’s Checkerspot, note the time and place and contact Jenny Balke, Peter Karsten or Andrew Fyson, DCA Land Manager (250 335 9047). Information on sightings is important in our quest to conserve this beautiful creature.
Hello,
Thank you for your informative website and particularly the comprehensive Guide to the Stewardship of Taylor’s Checkerspot on Denman Island.
I am with the Swan Lake Watershed Preservation Group in Island County, Washington. Our small group of volunteers has been actively working on restoring to maritime prairie, a privately owned site on Whidbey Island, Washington State. I am the unofficial “conservation manager” (aka most interested member) for the Taylor’s Checkerspot butterfly.
Our website is http://www.swanlake-preservation.org
I would welcome any feedback on the website if you think we could improve it in any way. And I welcome any dialogue regarding challenges and solutions that your group has encountered.
Happy New Year!
