The pool on Upper Morrison Creek, Morrison Marsh Nature Reserve, is known for being Rough-skinned Newt (Taricha granulosa) habitat during the breeding season. Three newts were seen near the edge today – on Valentines! The one on the far right in the underwater picture (bottom) is obviously a male ready to breed, as shown in the separate photo. He has developed a broadened head and more flipper-like feet…. ready to spend the spring and summer “pool-side”!
