Vancouver is not the only market that attracts bidding wars. Last year a pair of Chickadees got the jump on our resident Violet-greens and were well established in the Swallows’ usual nest box and quite prepared to defend it before the VGSW’s arrived. The Swallows then moved into a lower placed and less desirable house across the yard. This year the Chickadees and Swallows are here simultaneously and I am watching as they take turn checking out the nice, premium property up under the eave. So far nobody has begun to move in.

Our sad experience with Violet Greens was a couple of springs back when we watched a sweet young couple checking out our newly installed nest box. Unfortunately they found the box already occupied by wasps and reluctantly decided it wouldn’t do for them.
