Note: During the spring months, we need to be mindful of breeding and nesting birds, and the potential for flying checkerspot butterflies. If C-spots are seen flying in any of the following areas of work during this time, a work bee may be postponed.
(1) Thursday, May 25 — Central Park Clean-up, Round-2
Meet: 10:00 am, at Main Entrance (Denman Road).
Bring: leather gloves, loppers, pruning saws, buckets, shears, secateurs
Activities: Clearing remaining Scotch Broom from a few areas; Bracken control on trails; Some English Holly removal
(2) THREE DAYS: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 26-28 — Settlement Lands BROOM BEES
Meet: 10:00 am on whichever day(s) you like, at the corner of Chickadee and Central Roads.
Bring: Gloves, loppers, pruning saw, secateurs, battery powered reciprocating saw with ear protection.
Activities: Cutting of small and large broom plants
(3) Tues, May 30th — Railway Grade Marsh Trails
Meet: 1:00 pm, at north entrance
Bring: loppers, secateurs, shears, machete, gloves.
Activities: Cutting back salal, bracken etc. from trails
(4) FOUR DAYS: Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday, June 1-4 — Settlement Lands Projects
Meet: 1:00 pm on whichever day(s) you like, at main parking area (middle of Central Road)
Bring: Weeding tools, small pick-mattocks; spades, shovels, loppers, secateurs, shears, buckets, tarps, yogurt containers, gloves
Activities: Initial site preparation for butterfly garden; Digging and removal of invasive everlasting pea plants; removal of invasive St. John’s Wort (flowers) and initial digging of SJW and periwinkle
