Apr-30-2018, Two banded checkered skipper, Pyrus ruralis

First butterflies are out and about.  In addition to the familiar Western elfin, the small Two-banded checkered skipper enjoyed a sunny woodland patch.

Thamnophis elegans

A young garter snake, possibly a Western terrestrial garter snake guarded this rocky home.  Attacking the camera lens was true to the behaviour of this garter snake species!

And the wild strawberries await the nectaring Taylor’s Checkerspot butterflies!
