Milbert’s Tortoiseshell butterfly, Aglais milberti

This butterfly is not usually seen until May. The adults winter over, so the warm weather we have been having has brought this one out early. It was soaking up the heat on the driveway gravel. The caterpillars feed on stinging nettles, not common in this immediate vicinity, but there is plenty around the Island.
