Cycle the Tour

The Denman Island Home & Garden Tour team would like to see cyclists take over the island during the post-covid return of the event this June 15th and 16th.  There will be a draw at the end of each day to win a basket of prizes for those cycling the Tour.

We want to encourage people to ride their bikes. Given that the Tour is all about raising money for conservation purposes, we are thrilled to reward green transportation. With our ever-increasing awareness of climate change, it seems ever more relevant. Another advantage of cycling the Tour is no waiting to get on the ferry during this busy weekend.

Starting in 1992, the Tour has long been considered one of British Columbia’s top horticultural events. Twelve unique homes open their doors and garden gates, inviting visitors for an up-close look at island craftsmanship, beauty, creativity and culture. You will experience a varied selection of houses and gardens, with all the funds raised to support the work of the Denman Conservancy.

To enter the cyclist’s draw, enter your name in the draw at the Denman Arts Centre (1016 Northwest Road) to win a gift basket.

In 2022, 95 cyclists registered to cycle the Tour (59 of them on electric bikes). People loved the experience of being outdoors and seeing the island in a new way.

Reasons for cycling:

  • Save on ferry fares and ferry line-up waits
  • No parking problems
  • Free draw to win a basket of prizes

The nitty gritty:

Total Tour route is about 31 kms of which 8 kms are on gravel roads. There are also some longer gravel driveways of up to 200 m each.

Bring your lunch or enjoy meal services offered by many Denman Island eateries.

The Denman Island Home & Garden Tour welcomes cyclists as a way of supporting emission-free transportation.

The visible presence of many cyclists adds an appreciated “green transportation” value to the tour, which raises money for conservation on the island.

The island has an all-purpose trail (crushed gravel) alongside a substantial part of Denman Road, offering cyclists a safer, more tranquil option. Please be sure to wear visible clothing and/or have lights on your bike to make sure vehicles can see you if riding on the roads.

Don’t forget to bring you water bottle!
