Dennis Forsyth writes, (29 June): Our garden, like the whole island, is currently awash in babies learning to be birds.  I was set up this morning early to photograph hummingbirds foraging in one of our sage beds when this baby Siskin decided to find out what the hummers were getting over there.  He flew right onto the stem I was focussed on, took a couple of bites, and immediately left to rejoin the adults at the oil-seed feeder.  Dennis
