Hawthorn Control

Hawthorn doesn’t really have ‘Invasive plant’ character. Its seedlings grow very slowly and are not as common as they could be around my land, considering the huge crop of berries produced on the many mature shrubs each year.

Nevertheless I am taking out Hawthorn plants of all sizes to leave more scope for native vegetation. Score today: 5 young plants.

Bypass loppers are the right tool for cutting the tap root below ground level.

Two Hawthorn plants; one is between the lopper handles.
