Hawthorn Control

At the edge of our recently cleared New Orchard was a Hawthorn plant that had been slowly growing under a heavy canopy. With the clearing the Hawthorn expanded with abundant new leaves. It had to go, belonging neither in the new Orchard scheme, or as part of the surrounding native vegetation.

The target ‘plant’ circled in red. On the right the trunk of another larger Hawthorn shortly to be on the firewood pile.

Score for the day 2 Hawthorn shrubs and 5 seedlings from close by.

Hawthorn leaves: clearly English Hawthorn

It turned out there were actually two plants. The old stump sprouted new leaves and kept growing

I found the roots easy to cut with one of my favourite tools: Pick-adze.
